Many of us (Christ-followers) pray for God’s will to be done in our lives. I believe we are sincere in our desires to be SURE that our actions and life’s goals are fixed upon being IN the will of God. It isn’t important so that we can feel affirmed and happy. It is important because if we are not in His will, we are quite simply lost.
God’s Will is larger than our goals and life’s purpose.
[His will is that ] all men be saved and to come unto the knowledge of truth. — 1 Timothy 2:4
I have experienced at times in my own life and in observing others that we don’t always want His will, we want his “stamp of approval” on our own desires and plans.
God, I want….(whatever it is). Please stamp my desire with your favor by giving me success.
We then judge our lives and others by whether or not we/they appear to have (what I’d like to call) the “God-Stamp.” The God-Stamp is acheived when God seemingly blesses a person in his or her endeavors by giving success or feelings of assurance that *THIS* is God’s will.
But what if you don’t get the STAMP on something? When you lose? When you fail? When the doctor’s report isn’t good? When a trial you didn’t expect derails all of your plans? When it seems your prayers are not heard and in the silence you can’t hear anything? Success does NOT mean you are in God’s will any more than a hard time means you are out of it.
Sometimes your life falls apart just to bring you back to that place where you can hear His voice again. You had too much noise to listen.
I hate to break it to you, but you don’t have as much control as you think you do.
You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail. –Proverbs 19:21, NLT
Today I would like to encourage the one who feels lost–even the Christian who sincerely seeks to be in God’s WILL… We have to be more secure in God’s will than our desires in life being achieved. Salvation through Jesus Christ. Living what the Scriptures tell us to do. These are the things that God “STAMPS.”
Your desire and even your trial is calling you to Him. JESUS CHRIST. The One who IS, who knows and ONLY knows that His will is for you to be with Him. To walk with Him. To hear the Holy Spirit reminding you of what He said.
And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. –Matthew 28:20
My friend, nothing else matters.
Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. –Hebrews 13:20-21
